Although there are quite a few types of substrates, most experts advise choosing cork oak. It is, of course, more expensive, but it is not worth saving on quality. The cork lining under the laminate fully justifies its price, as it fulfills all its functions flawlessly. There are several types of such a substrate, but they all have high heat and sound insulation properties, protect the laminate from rotting and moisture. Produced in the form of rolls or sheets.

Most often, the lining is made of crushed cork chips.

There is also a cork-rubber version, which is made of a mixture of rubber crumbs and cork. Such a lining reduces vibrations from the operation of household appliances, prevents the formation of mold on the laminate. A bitumen-cork option is also possible. The lining is made by applying cork powder to kraft paper impregnated with bitumen. To ventilate the space between the laminate and the base, the latter is laid with powder. When bitumen cork is selected, waterproofing materials cannot be used.

The cork backing improves the performance of any laminate, even if it is not of the highest quality. Although, if you are going to spend money on an expensive underlayment, then it is necessary that the floor covering suits it. Having used high-quality materials once, you can enjoy the result for many years.

How will you benefit from the cork liner?

The use of technical cork as an intermediate layer between the trimming and the laminate has many advantages:

a huge resource of durability and wear resistance. This will allow you to change the laminate if necessary without the cost of siding preparation;
the best material to protect the laminate coating against damage caused during use;
natural ingredients that do not emit toxins and do not accumulate allergens;
excellent insulating and antistatic properties due to the porosity of the material;
easy to work They can be easily transported, spread and stacked without any additional tools;
low flammability and high smoldering threshold.

Before laying the cork, if you use a clean press, it will not be superfluous to create a waterproofing layer of polyethylene, cut into strips and laid with an overlap of 10-15 cm between yourself and the walls of the room.

We carefully glue the slats with construction tape, pay more attention to working with tools so as not to damage the waterproofing.

In my experience, cork flooring is best laid in a checkerboard pattern, perpendicular to the next laminate floor... However, if the manufacturer's instructions indicate parallel laying, it is better to follow the instructions.
